I have Lebanese business partners and would like to speak some words in Lebanese . I know some Arabic but in Egyptian , what lessons do you recommend for me ?
People from different Arab countries can understand each others dialects to a great extent, but some words and expressions could be completely alien in some countries. Countries of the following regions have more or less similar dialects: Levant region (Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria), Arabian Gulf region (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman, etc.) and North African region (Morocco, Tunisia, etc.). Egypt has a dialect that is closer to that of the Levant region.
When it comes to learning spoken Arabic, I get confused about which dialect I should learn or use. I live in Dubai, do I learn Gulf, Lebanese, Syrian, Egyptian dialect ?
Hi Lyn
Where do you intend to use Arabic ?
Jordan and Lebanon. So which dialect do you recommend in my case ? Thanks !
We recommend the dialect of the Levant region (specifically that of Lebanon), this is widely understood in Arab speaking countries. This is adopted in coffeebreaklessons.com
I will try the free lesson and let you know
Please try the Free lesson (accessible from the home page) and see how you get on !
You can then start with Module One (8 lessons), this would give you enough material to learn the basics of the language and start practical use of the language in a short period of time. All lessons are assisted by audio files and everything is explained on the coffeebreaklessons.com website home page. Good luck and do let me know if you need further help.
Thanks for your interest.
Hello again. I started with the Free lesson already and I think this is what I am looking for.
Ok, glad to know !
Hello
My two kids take Arabic private lessons in the US, but they have problems with pronuciation and spoken Arabic since their teacher gives them classical arabic. So they read and write, but can’t have a conversation in spoken Arabic. Could this website help them ? I think it is a really great idea, well designed and all but would children 8 and 10 be able to use it ?
Thanks
Georges
Hi
Thanks very much for writing and for your comments about the website. This website was designed for a mature audience and we have not tested its processes with children of that age. I suspect that your kids are savvy with computers and we don’t see any reason why they shouldn’t be able to login and view the lessons, this is relatively straight forward. In terms of content, most lessons would give them conversations based on real life situations with audio support that help them pronounce various words in spoken Levant dialect. I hope this helps and I suggest that you try the free lesson.
I have learned a certain amount of arabic and wish I could see the more advance lessons you have to offer.
Is there more than these 3 modules ?
Thanks.
JN
Hello Jack
Many thanks for your interest. We now have 3 modules (24 lessons in total), a fourth module is in the making and should be released by mid Jan 2010
I guess you have checked the list of modules and corresponding lessons from the Buy page of the website and you have gathered that your level of conversational Arabic is more advanced.
Best regards and thanks very much for writing to us.
Really nice posts. I will be checking back here regularly.
Thanks very much. Good to know !
Hi
WOW…. is this blog great or what !! Thanks for info, can I please have more information sent out to me about the Vocabulary search, how does the context of the vocab get communicated ?
Thanks a bunch
Hi Jane
Many thanks. Vocabulary terms are provided on per module basis. So if you are looking at Lesson1 in Module 1, you can search for vocabulary terms that are part of Module1 from within the page of Lesson1. So the scope of vocabulary terms is per module.
Hope this is clear.
Hi
Yep ! that’s clear. I am looking at the producer;s corner, any intention to have the public post similar videos ?
Hi again
The Producer’s Corner page features videos about the making of films that are either made or about Arabic speaking world. If you are a producer yourself, we would be interested to hear from you. Thanks
